Shotokan Karate Instruction

Adult Shotokan Karate instruction is offered under affiliation with the Japan Karate Association (JKA), World Federation – America under the direction of Sensei Yasuaki Nagatomo.  Instruction is led by Matt Stephen (shodan) and Zac Atlas (shodan), although the club has a number of affiliated yudansha (black belt) members and instructors.

Instruction will include a traditional Shotokan Karate-do syllabus, focusing on three elements: kihon (fundamentals), kata (forms), and kumite (sparring). Classes are held each Saturday from 1:00-3:00pm; however, this schedule is expected to change as the membership grows.

Members of Aikido Chuseikan can participate in the Karate program for no additional fee.  Non-members can pay daily visitor fees, or join the Aikido Chuseikan as a Supporting Member or full Adult Member. Rank testing is held regularly, three times a year.

Last night’s training was a little more bearable because we started at 7; however, the basketball court does not cool off quickly so bring yoga/dojo/water shoes if you’ve got them. We split the time between the courts and the grass…welcome to our guest, Jeff Everett! See MoreSee Less

We will be training outside Club Tampa Palms on the basketball court on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays until further notice. Because of the heat advisories, classes will not start until 7 pm for now. Please bring lots of water and a mask. Bug spray is recommended. You may want to bring yoga/water/dojo shoes if you have some. Like everything else, this is subject to change as we address weather and other factors … we will be spreading waaaaay out to account for the volume of air… but if you’re not comfortable coming out, we totally get it – let us know how you are doing and stay tuned, stay safe, stay sane! 7 is a little late for the boys🙁. Hope you guys have fun training😀

Great class tonight! Nice to see Ricky Davids again! He last trained with us in the good old days of the Primrose Ant Farm … how appropriate that he join us for our first training in the CTO Brick Oven. No wonder he was so light on his feet! See MoreSee Less
